Sunday 19th July, 2009Roger has had a long and extensive theatre career, and an even longer experience of reading poetry, though he is probably best known for the characters he has portrayed in Only Fools & Horses and The Vicar of Dibley, and, more recently, Old Guys.
Melissa Phelps is a highly acclaimed cellist who has played throughout the world as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. She is a Professor of Music at the Royal College and originally studied with Paul Tortelier.
Together they are presenting Eliot’s masterpiece, written shortly after the end of the First World War and highly relevant today.The poem is centred on London and the people who pass through it, and details the emotional and spiritual desolation that Eliot sees as the the Waste Land of Western Europe, barren of love and purpose.
For us, now, it is the world of technological toys and virtual reality shows, that have robbed our lives of meaning and direction.
