Haunting, large-scale landscapes capture the world around us with a studied reverence. INTERVENTION, an ongoing series of immaculately crafted images, is the culmination of 20 years’ experimentation in illuminating the landscape. Instinctively seeking out texture and form, Simmons coaxes out the physical peculiarities of a place through the careful introduction of artificial light. The resulting images are tableau of places at once familiar and unknown, imbued with an illusive, beckoning quality, which pushes them to the brink of recognition and into the realms of fantasy.

His works have been exhibited extensively in the UK, Europe and overseas, most recently in a solo exhibition at Galerie Christa Klubert in Berlin, and in Nature/Nation, a group exhibition currently showing at The Museum on the Seam in Jerusalem, voted one of the top 29 cultural sites worldwide by The Sunday Times Style Magazine. Other recent group exhibitions include Just World Order, Artsway, and Creekside Open 2009, APT Gallery, curated by Turner Prize winning artist Mark Wallinger.
