Described as “sexed-up fight-pop” by NME, The Brownies are Sophie, Nathan, Stevie, Michael and Maxxxie. They claim they formed in March 2006 after a chance meeting outside Topshop and went on to record their first EP within a matter of months.
Hotly tipped by Huw Stephens, their last single was the brilliant ‘Cougar’, released in May, and they followed this with an album, ‘Our Knife Your Back’, last month. It attracted rave reviews across the board including one from Q who described the album as “savage sexuality glued to outrageously energetic, lethally catchy punk-pop… coming on like a riot grrrl Ramones.”
