powering art in a car parked everywhere
Joining the Open Art exhibition for 2009, Emma & Dai are artists presented by Home Live Art an organisation specialising in the production of innovative multidisciplinary art events, bringing artists to meet audiences in new sites that lie beyond the conventions of the gallery or theatre.
Emma Hart is a London based artist, working with video and live art, she has presented work at the ICA, Tate Britain, Camden Arts Centre and internationally. Emma Hart's artwork is a course of action, setting out inventive processes and conceptual proposals to undertake with video and photography. In 2007 curatorial projects included the garden at Late at Tate (August) and The Adorable Art Fair. Emma Hart is undertaking a practice based PhD in Fine Art, at Kingston University.
Dai Jenkins is a sculptor and an arts professional. He is importantly the man behind The Shandy Collection. Started in 1999 The Shandy Collection houses over 80 works, from both established and new artists. The result is an egalitarian collection that maps the interactions of the collector's life and his passion for contemporary art. Dai Jenkins is also founder of PAY AND DISPLAY, who most recently worked with Battersea Arts Centre on their Incubate project.
As dusk falls the windscreen becomes illuminated - becoming home to a back projected series of art films made specifically for the car. The effect when projected onto the windscreen is very intriguing.
Once a night, chance passers by become voyeurs to ‘Disco Kissing’ a simply dazzling display, eminating from within the car, of coloured light projections, silhouette and shadow play, choreographed to a sound track.
3 films have already been made by the artists for the car that can run continuously on a loop after the hours of darkness. Hart and Jenkins propose to create a 4th ‘Latitude’ film for the PAY AND DISPLAY programme, created onsite and involving the Festival audience.
