Friday 17th July, 2009The Broken Family Band has been described as ‘a national treasure’ by The Independent and The Stool Pigeon, and their album ‘Welcome Home, Loser’ was listed in the Guardian’s 1000 Albums To Hear Before You Die. John Peel loved them, George Lamb hates them.
Their latest album Please And Thank You is either ‘easily their best’ (Q) or the product of ‘a dickless Radiohead’ (NME).
The band was formed in 2001 and has maintained the same line-up, ethos, and lyrical wit since. Their musical style has variously been referred to as alt. country, country rock, new wave, and indie-rock (the latter term being favoured by the band).
Their fuzzed-up weepy ‘It’s All Over’ became an unlikely Skins soundtrack hit, although they’ve been equally comfortable playing metal on the main stage at Cambridge Folk Festival. They’ve also shared stages with the likes of The Walkmen, Final Fantasy, Spoon, The National and The Incredible String Band… and are a happy late addition to this year’s Latitude lineup.
