Friday 17th July, 2009One of the founding fathers of the urban poetry scene Charlie Dark first popped up on the literature radar with his groundbreaking collective The Urban Poets Society. Formed in the early nineties UPS and their infamous ‘Speakers Corner’ jams provided a platform for vocal expression uniting rappers,mc’s and poets together under one roof in an exploration of the word.
In tandem with his musical career as both a Dj and producer Dark has also contributed to the musical landscape through remixes and productions with his acclaimed Attica Blues project sharing label space with Dj Shadow and the seminal Mo Wax label.
As a Dj, Charlie Dark has toured the planet working with many musical visionaries and rocked parties on all four corners of the globe. When not behind the turntables he can be found helping the next generation find their voice and teaching poetry and creative writing in schools across the UK.
