Shappi Khorsandi is an Iranian-born, UK-raised comedian nominated for best breakthrough act at the 2007 Chortle Awards. Born in Tehran, her family was forced to flee Iran for London in her early years after her father (Hadi Khorsandi) criticised the Ayatollah in a satirical poem. Blimey that makes her sound serious! A noted performer at Joe Wilson’s Comedy Madhouse in 1997, Khorsandi has appeared on many BBC Radio 4 programmes, including Quote… Unquote, Loose Ends, You and Yours, Midweek, The Now Show and The News Quiz.
